Metrivo vs Plausible

Here's an odd fact: Plausible and Metrivo have identical price points — $9, $14, and $19 a month. So this comparison can't hide behind pricing. It comes down to what each product does with the money. Plausible is, in our view, the best privacy-first traffic dashboard you can buy: open source, EU-hosted, a 2.5KB script, refined since 2019. Metrivo spends the same budget connecting your payment provider to your sessions so you can see which source produced which dollar and where revenue is leaking. Below is the honest breakdown, including where Plausible beats us.

The short version

Same price, different question. Plausible tells you how your traffic is doing and protects your visitors' privacy doing it. Metrivo ingests your actual Stripe, Razorpay, or Dodo payments and tells you which traffic source, pricing page, funnel step, or AI-search source produced — or leaked — that revenue. Plausible's revenue tracking is a goal you instrument yourself on its $19 plan; Metrivo's is webhook ingestion from your payment provider, included from $9.

What Plausible genuinely does better

The traffic dashboard itself. Plausible has spent years polishing one screen, and it shows. If what you want is a clean, fast view of visitors, sources, pages, and campaigns, Plausible is the standard everyone else copies — including us.

Open source and self-hostable. Plausible Community Edition is AGPL-licensed and free to run on your own server. Metrivo has no self-hosted option. If data sovereignty or auditability of the tracking code is a hard requirement, Plausible wins outright.

Privacy infrastructure.EU-owned servers, data that never leaves the EU, a 2.5KB script, and no cookies. Metrivo is also cookieless and respects Do Not Track, but Plausible's end-to-end EU posture is stronger and its script is lighter.

Longer trial. Plausible offers a 30-day trial versus our 7-day founding-user trial. (Entry-tier retention is now level — both keep 3 years on the $9 plan.)

What Plausible doesn't try to do

It never sees your payments.Plausible's revenue tracking (Business plan, $19/month) is a revenue goal: your own code reports an amount when a conversion happens. There is no Stripe, Razorpay, or Dodo integration, so Plausible can't know about renewals, failed payments, or refunds, and its revenue numbers will drift from your payment provider's. For a content site selling one-off products, that's fine. For SaaS, the interesting revenue events happen server-side at your billing provider — which is exactly what Metrivo ingests.

It reports; it doesn't diagnose.Plausible shows you the numbers and trusts you to find the problem. Metrivo's Revenue Leak Detector does the diagnosis: it ranks funnel drop-offs and unattributed revenue, and the Fix Draft Generator turns the top leak into a concrete change to ship. Funnels themselves are also positioned differently — Plausible gates them to its $19 Business plan, Metrivo includes them from the $14 Growth plan, with revenue attached to each step.

AI traffic is labeled, not monetized.Plausible's AI Assistants channel (June 2026) is a genuinely good addition — it groups known AI referrers and even reclassified historical data. But it stops at classification. Metrivo detects 11 named AI sources with evidence shown per session, marks confidence honestly (unknown stays unknown), and — the part no channel report can do — connects those sessions to payment records, so you see revenue per AI source.

Choose Plausible if

  • You want the cleanest privacy-first traffic dashboard and don't need payment attribution.
  • Open source or self-hosting is a requirement.
  • End-to-end EU data residency matters to your customers.
  • Your revenue events are simple enough to instrument as goals yourself.

Choose Metrivo if

  • You sell SaaS and want payments from Stripe, Razorpay, or Dodo attributed to sessions without writing tracking code.
  • You want revenue per AI-search source, with evidence and confidence labels.
  • You want leaks found and ranked for you, with fix drafts — not just reported.
  • You want revenue-aware funnels at $14/month instead of event funnels at $19.

Or run both

Plenty of teams keep Plausible as the shared traffic dashboard and add Metrivo as the founder's revenue layer. The scripts coexist, and both are cookieless, so your privacy posture doesn't change. Read more on revenue attribution and AI-search attribution.

FAQ

Metrivo and Plausible cost exactly the same. What am I actually choosing between?

The question each product answers. At $9/$14/$19 a month, Plausible gives you the best privacy-first traffic dashboard on the market — visitors, sources, campaigns, goals. Metrivo spends the same money on a different problem: it ingests your actual payments from Stripe, Razorpay, or Dodo, ties them back to sessions and sources, separates AI-search revenue, and ranks your funnel leaks. If your question is 'how is traffic doing?', pick Plausible. If it's 'where is revenue leaking?', pick Metrivo.

Plausible added an AI Assistants channel in June 2026. Is Metrivo's AI attribution still different?

Yes, and we'd rather explain the difference than ignore the update. Plausible's AI Assistants channel classifies sessions whose referrer matches a known AI tool — useful, and they reclassified historical data too. But it's classification only: referrer-stripped AI visits still fall into Direct, and there's no payment behind the numbers. Metrivo detects 11 named AI sources using referrer, UTM, and landing-URL evidence, labels each session's confidence (confirmed, inferred, or unknown), and connects those sessions to actual payment records — so you see revenue per AI source, not just a session count.

Plausible has revenue tracking on the Business plan. How is Metrivo's different?

Plausible's revenue goals are self-instrumented: your code calls window.plausible() with an amount at the moment of conversion. That works for simple checkouts, but it can't see what happens at your billing provider afterward — renewals, failed payments, refunds. Metrivo ingests payment events directly from Stripe, Razorpay, and Dodo webhooks (or the Manual Payment API), so the revenue numbers reconcile with your payment provider and recurring payments stay attributed to the session that started them. No tracking code for payments at all.

Where does Plausible beat Metrivo?

Several places, honestly. Its trial is longer than Metrivo's 7-day founding-user trial. Its 2.5KB script is lighter than ours. It's open source with a free self-hostable Community Edition, EU-hosted end to end, and its core dashboard is more polished as a pure traffic tool — it's been refined for that single job since 2019. (Entry-tier data retention is now level: both keep 3 years on the $9 plan.) If you don't need payment attribution, Plausible is the better pure analytics product.

Can I use Plausible and Metrivo together?

Yes. The scripts don't conflict, and it's a sensible split: Plausible as the team-wide traffic dashboard, Metrivo as the founder's revenue layer. Both are privacy-friendly, so running both doesn't change your cookie-banner situation.

Does Metrivo show me Stripe revenue per traffic source?

Yes — that's the core feature. When the session-to-payment link can be made, the payment is attributed to its source with a 'confirmed' label. When the link is partial, it's 'inferred', and when there's no evidence it stays 'unknown'. We don't silently model the gaps, because a founder acting on attribution needs to know how solid it is.
